Dancing with the Delaware Stars began in 2022 during the celebration of Wilmington Library’s 100-year Anniversary gala.  The event was so well received, the community demanded that we host it again the following year.  Here we are at our 3rd Annual Dancing with the Delaware Stars Fundraising Gala where community and business leaders compete for the Disco Ball trophy and bragging rights as the DWTDS Champion!

The list of luminaries who have made in-person appearances at the Wilmington Public Library (WPL) since Jamar Rahming became executive director in 2018 is a long one. Angela Davis, LeVar Burton, Dolly Parton (who selected WPL for her early childhood reading initiative), Dennis Rodman, Pam Grier, Jennifer Lewis, Malcolm Jamal Warner, the cast reunion of A Different World and the Kims of Comedy are just a few. Pop culture and the arts and humanities create social cohesion. It builds bridges and brings people together because it’s something that we all agree on. WPL’s capacity-crowd events have drawn residents from every zip code, socioeconomic class, race, and demographic that the library serves. The Wilmington Library has become the premier intellectual, social, and recreational hub of the city and is a citadel of democracy and intellectual freedom. We're a space that welcomes all ideas and all people.

But without you, none of this is possible. With your generous donations, ticket purchases to DWTDS Fundraising Gala and the support of our library, we can continue to bring big names, fun events, free books, free necessities for our patrons and more to the community.
